Deuteronomy 28:27

As I am reading through Deuteronomy 28, I’m stuck at the warning that is continued in verse 47.   I am challenged, “Do I serve God with joy and enthusiasm in all I do?”   For He has given me much to be joyful and enthusiastic about, but do I serve Him with them?    Well I suppose that would depend on what it means to “serve” God.   Do I serve all the authorities God has placed me under with Joy and enthusiasm? Parents? Guardians? Bosses? Teachers? Leaders? Employers? Government officials? Police officers?   Do I serve those who are in my sphere of life with Joy and enthusiasm?  Those around me?  Friends? Family?   Strangers? People who are stuck in the same traffic I am in?   I was struck with this, so I went to the 1st American dictionary (1828) to see what serve means.   A few definitions of serve: “to obey; to submit to; to be sufficient to, or to promote; to obey and to worship (God); to be a servant; to wait; to answer; to be of use; to do the honours of.”  Now, knowing these I can take back each of these definitions to each of the challenges above.   Do I obey with joy and enthusiasm?  Do I submit with joy and enthusiasm?  Do I worship God with joy and enthusiasm?  Do I honour with joy and enthusiasm?   Do I promote others with joy and enthusiasm?  Do I wait with joy and enthusiasm?
