Finances Update

Phew…   I’ve been really busy lately and a lot has happened.   I’ve spent the past month trying to sell almost everything I have to raise money for me to survive next year in SLI.  Between rent, gas, food, Emergency funds (eg. Car repairs) and such, I expect I’ll need at least $6,500 (USD) to live next year.  In addition, I need finances to buy a car with decent gas mileage.   I’ve been selling a lot of coins on eBay, but I canceled a lot of my listings on eBay after I sold a handful and realized that shipping costs are a lot higher than I expected and I am almost losing money selling them.  I have sold a few larger items that my parents left behind from Texas to sell.  Those are the things where a lot of my current funds have come from.   I am thankful that God gave me the idea to put a donation box out on my garage sale, since that raised an additional $100.   God has said He will provide and I am trusting that.  He will provide, enough said.  

I was able to sell all my silver for $2,500 and a few other valuable things on craigslist.   Here and there God keeps funds coming in somehow.   He keeps me trusting Him that’s for sure.   I’m still trying to sell a number of items and hope to get some more funds there.   My mom decided to sell her car here in Illinois instead of having me bring it down to Texas.  So she said that If I sell it (for a price that she wanted or more) then I can have 10% of what I sell it for.   Praise God: He sold it less than 24 hours after I posted it for sale.   I sold it for $1,850, so that gave me an additional $185 towards my goal. 

I was hoping to get $2,000-3,000 for a car (in addition to the needed $6,500), but I don’t foresee that now.  I’m just praying that God will provide a cheep good gas saving car.  I found another Toyota Echo on Craigslist down in Texas.  It seemed almost perfect, low miles, great condition and all that, except it was $4,500.  I prayed about it and a little while later, my mom found another Toyota Echo on Craigslist down in Texas that was only $2,700, and after talking to the owner, she said the lowest she would take for the echo was $2,200 (it needed about $4-500 in repairs).   I really like that one and really want it, except I only have about $1,000 in my “car fund”.    Then my dad’s pointed out that his friend was selling his VW Passat (diesel).   It has 250,000 miles and is really nice.  I really like it and think it would be a great car.  His friend said “make an offer”, but I don’t think I can offer enough to get it, without God’s help.  At first I didn’t want it; I wanted an echo.  But God’s changed my heart to want it – He’s good at that.   So I was thinking I would offer him around $1,500 for it, but I don’t even know if I can afford that now.  Sigh…. I don’t know, God’s got some plan that I don’t know, all I know is that He wants me to trust Him.  He will do what He said He’ll do and He said He will provide.  He will provide.  

I haven’t found a job over the summer, so I’ve assumed that my job is trying to sell my stuff.  I don’t like selling my coin collection though.  It’s tough.  The coins that I’ve collected for years that I believe will be worth something 10, 20 or 30 years down the road, I am now “forced” to cash them in for face value cash in this financial need.   I haven’t cashed them all in yet, and I hope I don’t have to.  I’ve cashed a few hundred dollars in so far out of this collection.   Worst-case scenario, I could probably cash in anther few hundred dollars, but I really don’t want to do that.  I’m praying that God will provide in a different way than that.

Update: Sale, Broken Car, Income, Praise God

Well, it’s been a while since I last blogged. Life has been really busy lately.   Now I must think, where to start, way back when did I last blog….

Well, over the 4^th of July weekend, I was with cousins in Indiana and we all went to the Fort Wayne Skyzone.  That was a ton of fun. For those who don’t know, Skyzone is a huge indoor Trampoline park.  It was a lot of fun to be jumping around with close cousins and just being able to spend time together (especially since I’ve been in Canada the past year).  

As soon as we returned from Fort Wayne, I went straight Grandma Baurer’s house.  I am staying there currently (between her house and the Schlipf’s house – Cousins).   But this specific time, I was at her house prepping for the upcoming Garage Sale that weekend.  I got to her house late Tuesday afternoon, and spent the next two and a half days going through all the stuff I had stuffed in her garage (both my stuff and stuff my parent’s didn’t take to Texas – two truck loads, two van loads (no seats in the van) and two car loads of stuff).  It was crazy and when I opened the garage sale on Friday I didn’t feel ready.  I sold most everything for $1 or less and most things for 25 cents or less, though I did sell a few higher priced items.  Friday morning was the busiest, it was constant people there (3-6 at all times).  The advertising really helped.  I told people where I was going, the reason for the sale and 200-300 items that were for sale (mostly 25 cents or less).  That Got people’s attention, I advertised it on about ten different “For Sale” groups on Facebook, on my Facebook page, my blog, craigslist and about 15 different garage sale websites.   So people from all over came and bought quite a lot of stuff.  Friday after noon was somewhat dull, but that was expected since most garage sales close around noon.  I was open for 11 hours on Friday.  Saturday was even more dull, though there were a few people here and there and some good sales were made, it wasn’t the busy I had expected.   Saturday I was open for 15 hours.  I had a donation box set out for donation for my trip to Canada, and I raise around $100 in donations, plus a lot of the “random” people that came were asking a lot about what I am going to be doing there and about SLI last year.   My overall goal was to sell $1,200 worth of stuff.  Sadly I only got 2/3 the way there.  My total sale was about $850, which is REALLY Good for a two-day garage sale, but wasn’t the amount I was hopping for.  Plus when the sale ended on Saturday, I had enough stuff left I could of done a whole another garage sale.   Most of the stuff was to be given to Salvation Army and Mission Mart (a story yet to come).

Sunday I went to Grace Presbyterian Church (near Grand Prairie) and it was good.  Over the summer I am trying out a bunch of different churches.  I want to see how different churches feel, act, work and what other church cultures are like.    I am not “church hunting” since my home church is Koinonia (in Canada), but I just would like to see what God wants to show me through different houses of God. 

Sunday evening I headed back over to the Schlipfs house for Bethany’s (cousin) Birthday dinner.  Her birthday was on Monday, but she worked Monday, so they celebrated it Sunday night.  After a dinner of shish kabobs,  a cookie cake and presents, we sat down and watched Mom’s Night out – it was the first time I had ever seen it.  It was really good and I really enjoyed it.  Part way through Caleb (cousin from Indiana) arrived.  He is staying at the Schlipfs for two weeks while he is at a Music Camp in the area.  We all thought we would have a lot of time with him but it doesn’t look like that any more since he found out the times of the camp.  It starts 8:30am and ends 8:30pm.   That’s okay though, as long as he is having fun.   I spent the night at the Schlipfs and headed back to grandma’s in the morning.  I have been at grandma’s since (the past 4 days). 

I have some finishing up work to do on cleaning out the garage sale remains.  I arranged to have Salvation Army to come on Wednesday and take all that was left, though there were a few things that they couldn’t take.  As they were loading up the desk, they took the two remaining glass tops off (there were 3 but one randomly exploded in my hands while setting it up for the garage sale) and stated to load them.  As they were almost in the truck, another large glass piece decided it wanted to instantly and randomly become a messy puzzle.  From one piece to million-piece puzzle it went, shattering all over the road and yard.  It freaked the guy out.  It was kind of funny, I was surprised by it, but it was less surprising since it had already happened to me.  He couldn’t figure it out, since he didn’t hit it against anything, it just exploded.  They volunteered to clean up most of it, but after they left we spent a good 20 minutes picking up pieces on the road and out of the grass. 

Tuesday, I literally spent the entire day posting things to eBay.  To get more free listings I paid the $25 monthly cost for a eBay store.  I am trying to sell most, if not all of my coin collection to raise enough money for Canada next year.  I am expecting that between food, rent, gas and clothing, I will need an additional $2,000 (USD) and my dad recommended to make it $2,500 since most things end up costing more than we expect.  Plus I need money for a car, and if I want any Emergency funds, I have to raise that money as well. So figuring I will need at least $4-5,000 more. This is really hard when you can’t get a job – companies just don’t hire when they know that you will be leaving in a little over a month.  So my full time job now has become selling all my stuff.  Selling my coins, larger valued item left from the garage sale and my silver.   My goal is to get $2,000 from silver, $1,000 from coins and $1,000 from selling some of the larger items left from the garage sale.  It’s going to take some work, but if God allows it, I think it just might work.    I currently have about 100 coins (lots) listed on eBay, about 11% of them have bids at this point.  I’m praying that over the next few days, they all will get bids.  If they all get bids and sell, that will give me about $400 in coin sales, but that’s a rather large IF.  

I was going to post a big lot of most all my silver and 90% silver coins on eBay, but through the advice of grandma and my dad, I didn’t  (it was going to cost about $400 in fees and shipping to sell it on eBay).   So I posted them on craigslist and got a reply back from a guy south of Lincoln.  He made an offer for the silver, and also said that he might be interested in the silver coins as well, so we set up a time that we would meet in Lincoln (about 75 minutes away).   I set the timing and place up at a Mission Mart, so I could drop off the rest of the garage sale items that Salvation Army didn’t take.  By as I was 30 minutes into the trip (near Morton) the little Hyundai I was driving decided to die… in heavier traffic… in a construction zone… and while the highway I was on was merging with another highway (removing the shoulder temporarily).  I coasted for a bit, the acceleration not working, and the guy behind me wasn’t to happy at my sudden reduction in speed (he couldn’t pass because of the traffic in the left lane).   As I was able to get onto the other highway (that was merging from the right side) and head towards the shoulder (full of construction cones), my brakes locked up.  Then they car’s engine light popped on, followed by the battery light, followed by the low oil light and followed by the CHECK ENGINE light.  Having no breaks, I rolled until I felt I was about at a stopping speed and then rolled in between two construction cones.  I called my dad, (two times) but he didn’t pick up, so I called my mom and told her the situation (remember they are in Texas now).  She suggested for me to call David (my brother) and then call the insurance company to get a tow truck’s number (we have road-side assistance, which includes a free tow).   So I did that.  David was 30 minutes away and agreed to pick me up in Tremont at the auto body shop.   They tow truck came within 15 minutes and towed me to Tremont.   I had texted the guy I was meeting and told him my car broke down and I’d be 30-40 minutes late.  David picked me up and took me to the county house (where he is living now) and I took the truck to Lincoln.  They guy was an honest guy, and worked hard to make sure I got what the silver/coins were worth.  He  didn’t wan to pay what I wanted for the coins, but he looked up and called around and got the exact current value of them and paid me fairly.  I was happy.  I sold my 113oz of silver and nearly $15 face value of 90% silver coins for $2,525.   This has now paid for next year.  All they money I make now will go towards a car, emergency funds and potential visa fees. God is good.  God provides!!! Praise GOD!!!!

Great & Marvelous

For my quite time this morning, I felt God telling me to read through previous Life Journal's and praise Him.   So I opened up my Life Journal to the first page, September 10, 2015.   (For those who don't know, The Life Journal's are daily devotions.  We read through the OT once and the NT twice in a year.   Each day has a few chapters that we read from both the OT and NT, and we listen to what God is speaking to us about what we read, whether it's just a single verse or something overall.   Then we Journal on what God spoke to us using the SOAP method.  S-Scripture; O-Observation; A-Application; and P-Prayer).  

Scripture - Revelations 15:1a "Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous..."

Observation - All things from/in heaven are great and marvelous.  This is just a given.  John seems to be so awestruck with heaven, that he just can't describe it; he has to keep expanding and enhancing that which is in heaven: Great and Marvelous.

Application - I need to see all things from God as "Great & Marvelous".  ALL things, including trials and struggles in life.  God is Good, he has a plan and ALL he does is Great & Marvelous.  My God can, My God will, and even if My God doesn't, I will praise Him.

Prayer - God help me to truly accept, believe and pursue that ALL you do is Great & Marvelous.

A Walk With The Holy Spirit

God has a plan, life is His, and He works all things for Good!   Though God has shown me many things over the past handful of weeks and given me peace about many things, I still have fears.   I have had many questions, concerns, and things to tell God.

Oh where to begin.  The other night I decided to take a walk with God again.  I haven’t done this since being in Illinois but I thought it was a good time to do so.  In the past I’ve dedicated each walk with God to a specific thing I need an answer to.  This time I just wanted to talk with God.  The walk was a 2-3 hour walk in perfect weather.  It felt really good to just walk, and even better to just walk with God.  I spent a lot of time pouring out my heart to Him. 

At first, I poured out my heart to Him, all that I do not understand and all that I have questions about.  Then I just talked to, praised and worshiped Him.  As I was praying, I prayed for Cristina (my cousin) and I felt to suddenly pray in the Spirit, and so I did so for the next long while.  I felt the topic change a few times, yet power was there and chains were being broken.  Praise God!   He began to speak to me of things to come as I talked with Him.  He told me that my future may be hard and outside of my comfort zone, and it will consist of persecution and death, but there is also life, joy and love shared.  It will be worth it, no doubt about it.  He told me that I will be blessed as I continue to trust Him.  He will bless Cristina as He already has.  He reminded me that the Holy Spirit is with me and I can just ask Him the things I would ask Jesus.  So I started firing away and, praise God, He started answering.  I asked Him about Abi, and He told me that she will have better friends in Texas and she will be blessed.  He is looking out for her, and loves her.   He also told me that I can tell her this.   I asked Him if I should sell my silver and He said yes, I should sell my silver, silver coins, coins, copper pennies, and all that I have.  Now He clarified that this is figurative.  No I don’t need to literally sell everything I have, but all that I am questioning whether I should sell or not, I should sell.   I also shouldn't worry about the Garage sale, for everything will sell.  I should do the Garage sale and sell food at it.  Not just cold drinks, cinn rolls and butter braids but something else, He will tell me what to sell.  I shouldn’t bake anything though.  I am not to bake – in the sense that I shouldn’t be using my money & time toward baking supplies – this is not something I wanted to hear and I had to confirm it again with Him to be sure.   I am to trust Him, He has a plan.  He told me to Trust Him, even though I may not understand it and it may seem silly, trust Him and let Him work out His plan.  Shortly later when He told me that He will tell me what food to sell at the Garage sale, I said, “that seems stupid” and He replied in a more polite way, “Isn’t that just what I said, It will seem silly, but trust me.” 

He told me that, yes, I should do the Garage Sale, and Yes, I should apply for a job.  I can work for the Spraying place (Neither yes nor no).  It’s a ‘I can but it doesn’t have to be that place.  I should just try to get a job.’    Also, that I shouldn't worry about finances, He will provide.  

As far as a Car…  He will show me if I should get a car in Canada, Illinois or Texas.   Yes I should get a car.  He will provide.  I asked Him if I should be looking or If He will bring it in.  He replied that I should “trust Him and He will provide”. Followed by, “Seek and you shall find.” And “Ask and it will be given to you, Seek and you shall find and Knock and the door will be opened.”   I am asking God for a car and He will provide.  Now I should Seek for a car, to look for one, and I will find.  And as I Knock on the doors of God’s presence, God will open and let me in. 

He said that I can live with either the Schlipf’s (cousins) or Grandma, it doesn’t matter.  It might make a difference depending where I get a job.  He then said, “I will bless you wherever you are.”

I heard Him laugh.  I asked Him If I should buy more stickers for the Garage Sale and He said yes, followed by, “just don’t be too excessive.”  I smiled and laughed saying, “God? When have I ever been excessive?”  I then heard Him laugh, a deep rolling laugh.  It warmed my heart so much. I’ve never heard Him like that laugh.  It was a good time with God again!

I had asked Him if I should apply for a visa and He told me that I should, that I should apply for a work visa.  But later on, I forgot what He said so I asked Him again and He confirmed that I should apply for a work visa, but then wait and trust Him.  I shouldn’t worry about it, for He will do what He said He will do.  I asked Him how I should do it, and He suggested I should Ask Joseph Olubobokun (someone at Koinonia who I've talked to about a visa previously). 

The whole way I kept asking God to remind me of all that He is telling me and He said that He would.  And He did, praise God! 

I asked Him how I could remember things better and His reply was, “Review and Live Out”   That says enough to me, Review and Live out! When I was talking to Him He told me how He loves me and has a plan for me. How He has blessed me and will continue to do so.   His laughter and so much more.  I told Him that I will treasure that in my heart and to my surprise He said “no you won’t”   When I questioned I was reminded/told that I would only treasure it in my heart if I reviewed it and lived it out.  Otherwise I wouldn’t remember it. 

He also told me that to stay focused He told me to always bring it back to Him. Praise Him, worship Him, talk to Him, ask Him to take my life over completely and rid me of it.  Let Him lead fully.

He told me that Yes, I will be with Kids, but also He answered the piece on my heart the past 13+ years that I’ve been trying to ignore and run from.  I will be a pastor. And I will pastor kids, pastors, adults and I will go into all the world to proclaim the gospel.  It will be hard and out of my comfort zone but He will give me courage and be with me.  

He told me that I need to stay focused on Him!  Trust Him alone! I don't need silver, money, coins, plans, life… I need Him!   His love has washed over and drowned all my fears.  

He said that I can sort through more copper pennies to sell, but it might cause me a bit more stress.  Yes it will make me more money, but it will be a lot of work. 

Oh.... GOD IS GOOD!   I never expected to just be able to straight out ask Him questions like this and have Him straight out answer them.  He normally doesn't do this (I think), and it has taken some time of praying and a great amount of continual seeking after Him, His word and His will.   God is Good!  Praise God.   I have so much peace now about what lies ahead of me, at least for the next step in this new adventure.   Thank God for the Holy Spirit!!!! He is such a good friend.  

Life Update

So it's been a while since I really last updated my blog.   Life has been really crazy lately.   Last that I've told you was the craziness of moving.   If you are ever planning on hiring packers for moving, I would not recommend Two Men & A Truck.   They were really friendly people, but they didn't do a full job.  They "missed" rooms and we found drawers in the kitchen late the night before we were moving that they had not packed.  Areas that they did pack, they didn't fully pack.   Anyways, we were able to get most things into the truck and trailer.   However, we had some friends who were driving down to spend some time in Texas and help my family unload.  Then they would drive the trailer back with their truck to the owners here in Illinois.   However, the night before leaving, their truck broke down and they had to take our van.   We got to load a lot more stuff in the van.  Then once they are in Texas, they will drive our truck back up here.

There was a load or two of stuff still left in the house when they left, and I plan to go get the truck tomorrow afternoon (it should be back by then) and try to load up the stuff and take it to Grandma Baurer's.   All the stuff that didn't make it to Texas, I get to sell on my Garage Sale this weekend.

My mom and sister left in my dad's car at 4:00am Thursday morning for Texas.  My dad left around 9:00am with the truck and trailer.   His friend left in the afternoon, I think.   God has answered prayer once again, I have been trying to figure out what I'm going to use for a vehicle over the summer since I didn't bring my car down from Canada.   Thankfully, Praise God, my mom left here little red car here in Illinois for me to use over the summer, and I will take it down to her at the end of summer.    So now the van is in Texas and needs to be in Illinois; the Truck is in Illinois and needs to be in Texas, and my moms car (mine for the summer) is in Illinois and needs to be in Texas within two months.

I then moved into the Schlipf's (cousins) temporarily.  I will be spending most of my summer with either the Schlipf's or Grandma Baurer.   I spent Thursday through Saturday with the Schlipf's last week.  Then I road with them and Grandma to Indiana to the Stuckey's (cousins).    We've spent the weekend here in Indiana together for the 4th of July.   Tomorrow we will head back to Illinois (about 4-5 hour drive).  When I get back I will head to Tremont to pick up the truck and take the stuff still in our old house to grandma's.  Then I will spend the rest of the week at grandma's preparing for the garage sale.  The Garage sale with be at grandma's on Friday and Saturday.   Then I plan to look for a place to go to church and then I don't know what happens next.   We'll see.

I also did finally get to order a book I've been saving for and wanting to buy for a while.   A blog book.  This book is my entire blog, from the day I started it in September 2016, till my most recent post (prior to this one).  Now I'll have a hard cover, hard copy of my blog that I can go to anytime to be reminded of what God has spoken to me, all while not on the internet!  How great is that!!!  I'm really looking forward to it, it's suppose to get in around July 18th.   So excited.

HUGE GARAGE SALE

On Friday July 8^th and Saturday July 9^th, I will have a HUGE Garage Sale in Princeville IL, (Ostrum Meadows)!  I will be staying in Canada for a time, and I don’t have any room to store any of my stuff.   I want to get rid of everything!   There are thousands of items from almost every topic you can think of.   ALMOST EVERYTHING IS $1 OR LESS, MOST THINGS ARE 25 CENTS OR LESS!!!  Come ready to get a lot with just pocket change.  My goal is to raise $1,200 to help support myself over the next year since I won’t have a job while in Canada.  The list below is just a glimpse of all that will be there.  From Furniture to silver to clothes to sports to antiques to food to just about everything, here is the starting list of more than 200 things that will be on sale.
