Honduras Day 4 - Chill time
After about 3:30 in the afternoon we left our ministry areas and Oto made an executive decision to take some chill time. So we drove to a mall (it took at least 50% longer than normal because of traffic) and we met a an Ice cream shop inside. It's less than $2 to get a 2-scoop waffle cone of frozen Ice cream - It's soo cheap. After Ice cream we were given about an hour to walk around or chill in the mall. Some of us started walking around and after a bit our group split up into smaller groups, walking here and there. While walking around we found some motorized animal 'cars' for rent on the second level. It was soo cheap too (less than $3 USD for 15 minutes). So all 4 of us in our group got one and had so much fun just riding them around the mall. We got most of the rest of the class to join us and we just made a train and went all around the mall riding these motorized animals! It was so great! (Abi, you would of been very embarrassed, at first). After about 30 minutes of riding them around, we left. The whole thing was worth the money - the best $3 I have ever spent!!!!! We got a ton of interesting looks and some very entertaining reactions which were priceless. We had a number of older couples just laughing so hard, and it made a lot of people smile (including a number of security guards)!!!! It was worth it!
Honduras Day 4
Today was a good day.
We went to a school that Dale teaches at. We went into 5 different classrooms, taught a
lesson (I was helping act out this lesson: The parable of the master and the 3
servants who either invested their money or buried it). Then we all shared a talent that God has
given us, explaining to the kids to use their talents to Glorify God. We then did a Flamingo Warrior (a game) and
the Cha Cha (a dance), followed by a little questioning the kids and a
prayer. It was really cute to see all
the kids faces, and how they get excited
about what we are doing and teaching them! We also got to go down the street to the two
Kindergarten classes (the other classes were grade 1-6). We helped them with
their crafts and stuff. Our group split
from there, some went into the other kindergarten class and the rest of us went
back to the older kids. Then we all came
together after lunch and did a big program for a whole new group of grade 1-6
kids. They seemed to love it. We got to
spend some time playing with the kids afterwards. They loved jumping on my
shoulders, pulling my arms, and sitting in my arms! It was a ton of fun – They were so cute!!!!!!
We then go the privilege of going to some peoples houses and talk to them,
learn about their lives, bring them some food, and most of all: pray for them!!! It was really neat to see the difference in
the cultures.
Something that really stuck out to me was during our lesson
we asked the kids in most of the classes “what are things someone would need to
bring on a journey?” The first answer
for almost all of them was “water”. Now
that gets to me because of what their priorities and needs are. If you asked this same question in Canada or
America, most people would immediately say “money, phone, headphones…” stuff
like that. There are such needs here in
3rd world countries! Most
people just don’t fully get this. It’s a
see-it-only kind of thing. It doesn’t fully comprehend in the human mind until
you see it firsthand.
